EN 60068 provides a standard procedure for determining the ability of a specimen to withstand specified severities of non-repetitive or repetitive shocks. The purpose of this test is to reveal mechanical weakness and/or degradation in specified performances, or accumulated damage or degradation caused by shocks. This standard may be used in conjunction with IEC 60068-2-47:2005, for testing packaged products. If the specimens are subjected to vibration of a combination of random and deterministic nature resulting from transportation or real life environments, for example in aircraft, space vehicles and for items in their transportation container, testing with pure random may not be sufficient. Under such circumstances, IEC 60068 is a great aid. IEC 60068 is a method of environmental testing, specific to the individual types of samples.
